A Call for Unity and Change in Our Union

Updated: May 8

Brothers and Sisters,

My name is Steve Holt. I am a general foreman with A1A and have proudly been a member for 37 years. During this time, I have witnessed our union leadership come and go. I have seen teams that successfully fulfilled their responsibilities as our duly elected representatives. However, I have also observed those who prioritized popularity over making tough decisions. This has often led to governance that did not serve our best interests, such as the reduction of benefits that Blackie Fujikawa fought so hard to achieve.

The Shift in Focus

Another concern I have is the shifting focus of our membership. Historically, we have been rooted in the Electrical Industry, which has always defined our identity and expertise. Now, we are venturing into other areas, such as education. While this may seem beneficial, we are inadvertently taking union members from another local union. This shift dilutes our support at the hall. We must remember that our needs and concerns as construction workers differ significantly from those of educators.

The Importance of Thoughtful Leadership

This is a critical time for our union. We need to be very thoughtful about who we put our trust in. I firmly believe that we should look to a new group of leaders to help navigate us through these challenges. We need fresh minds and innovative plans rather than simply continuing with the status quo.

I encourage you to join me in supporting a new direction. Vote for Charlie Tanabe and his team for the good of our members, our families, our contractors, and our industry. Together, we can forge a path that honors our past while embracing the future.

Building a Stronger Community

As we move forward, it is essential to foster a strong sense of community within our union. We must come together, share our experiences, and support one another. By doing so, we can create an environment where every member feels valued and heard.

Let us remember that our strength lies in our unity. When we stand together, we can achieve great things. We can advocate for our rights, protect our benefits, and ensure that our voices are heard.

Embracing Change for a Better Future

Change can be daunting, but it is often necessary for growth. As we consider new leadership, we must be open to new ideas and approaches. Embracing change does not mean abandoning our core values; instead, it means adapting to the evolving landscape of our industry.

We have the opportunity to redefine what our union stands for. By focusing on our strengths and addressing our weaknesses, we can build a brighter future for all members.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I urge you to reflect on the direction of our union. Let us choose leaders who prioritize our collective well-being and advocate for our needs. Together, we can ensure that our union remains a powerful force in the Electrical Industry and beyond.

Aloha,

Steve Holt
