Our Dues. Our Work. Our Future.

We are MEMBERS FIRST. Not administration first.

You promised to reduce union dues.

Instead, our hard-earned dues money has been overspent and mismanaged — including a former employee embezzling over $44,000 in member dues payments between 2018–2021, with falsified records uncovered only by an internal audit.

While that money disappeared, we’re also watching givebacks at the bargaining table — concessions on hard-won contract language that past administrations fought tooth-and-nail to secure for better wages, benefits, and protections.

And work is slipping away. Non-union contractors are gaining ground across Hawaii’s construction sector (now over 69% of private-sector construction workers), while our referral books slow and jurisdiction weakens under weak enforcement and poor strategy. Every lost job means less work for our brothers and sisters, less security for our families, and more pressure on the dues we already pay.

This isn’t fiscal responsibility — it’s fiscal recklessness with OUR money and OUR future.

Enough is enough.

•  Cut the overspending and bloated costs

•  Stop the givebacks that erode what we’ve won

•  Fight to bring work back and protect our market share

•  Deliver real dues relief for working members

We are Members First — which means transparency on every dollar, accountability from leadership, and no more trading away gains our predecessors battled for.

If you’re fed up with dues going missing, contracts being chipped away, and work disappearing while promises go unkept, it’s time for real change in IBEW Local 1186.
